Mama, you are BURNT OUT...I mean fall asleep on the mid conversation with your husband after the kids are in bed BURNT OUT.
You can’t remember when the last time you had your eyebrows done, let alone last time you were able to read a book.
You’re taking care of everyone
But...when do you take care of you, mama?
If you’re new here, first of all, WELCOME MAMA!! I’m excited to have you. I think you might like this other blog post...check it out and if you like it, share it on your Facebook!
As women we inherently want to take care of others, even as kids many of us take care of baby dolls or help with pets at home.
Somewhere along the line, though, we start to forget about taking care of ourselves.
Somewhere along the line we start to feel guilty for doing things that make us feel good.
If we go for a pedicure and decide to get a manicure after we get there we feel guilty that we’re taking too much time.
When we make plans to get out of the house, whether it’s with friends or our husband, we think or talk about the kids the entire time. And if we don’t...we feel guilty.
So where does this come from? When do we start feeling guilty about taking time for ourselves?
We do this to ourselves…
That’s my theory anyway.
And that’s where we do it to ourselves.
We think that wanting a career is “extra” to what we are “supposed” to be doing and that leads to the guilt.
I’m going to be honest here, even though it’s 2018, we still have society telling us...
HOLD ON A MINUTE THERE, SOCIETY…
Where do YOU get off telling US what we NEED to do or SHOULD or SHOULDN’T do?
You can take all of that and stick it. Seriously….
Mama, I’m going to tell you what you need.
I know, I heard your eyes roll ;)
Someone else telling you what you need, thinking they know you.
But, hear me out...
What you need is to be you.
That’s it, plain and simple.
You’re so concerned being everything for everyone else, you’re not being you for you.
You want to be the real you again?

Humor me for a minute and let’s look at it this way.
When you were hired at your job you put your best foot forward, right?
I’m not saying you have to be that person, you’re a different version of that person, a better version in most cases.
You bust your ass for the company but you’re tired.
That meeting invite you just got makes you huff and go refill your water or coffee. You are in no mood for a meeting, it’s just going to put you behind on your tasks which means you’ll have to bring it home or come in early tomorrow, so there goes the early morning workout you were hoping for.
You just want to do your job, help some people, make a difference for a customer or two and go home to your family.
But you’re feeling like you’ve been run over by a truck and you wish you just had some time to yourself.
MAMA, DO IT!
Take the time. Self care is no joke it is imperative for our mental and physical health.
I hear the excuses all the time and I call bullshit…
“I don’t have time for self care.”
“I don’t have money for self care.”
“Anyone who puts themselves before their kids is selfish.”
“I don’t NEED to take time for myself.”
And on...and on…
Does any of this sound like you, mama?
Give me two minutes of your time and let me tell you a little story
The kids were home from school and, as siblings do, they were arguing over absolutely nothing. I knew I had to come up with some kind of plan for all of us, and I felt I needed a little “me time”. There was nothing wrong, I was just feeling like I could be better, I could do better.
Now, I have heard people spout off saying, “There is no ‘me time’ when you’re a parent.”
Just hear me out..because there can be, it’s all in your perception of “me time”.
Me time doesn’t always have to be time away.
My plan (that worked out fabulously, if I do say so myself)
And...here’s the part where I was able to have “me time”
While the kids were playing in the tub, I was able to read two pages of a book and get a face mask done. That’s right two PAGES...not two chapters...and I think I read the first half of one page twice...because “mom life”.
Let me shout out to Target on this one.
They have these single use masks they sell that have both a clay mask and peel off mask in a variety of scent combinations. They’re like 3.99 or something. I bought a butt-load when they were on sale for 2.99 and I had a Cartwheel offer.
These things are divine!
They sell single masks as well, but I like these because I can do both. It kind of forces me to take care of myself because, if I have half of it open, I need to use the other half, I don’t want to mess with cutting the used portion off or having it laying around either making a mess or getting lost.
So, I started...
Then I washed, toned and moisturized my face. All of that I did while I was doing “mom things”.
All of that made me feel SO RELAXED.
And ONLY that made me better for my family last night.
You’re thinking...great, I’m glad you were able to do that, but I can’t. I can’t make that happen in my house.
Well, I’ve got three things that you can start THIS WEEK that will get you started on your self care...without feeling selfish.
Now tell me, what can do you that qualifies as self care while you’re doing ALL.THE.THINGS.
One more thing...I know it’s hard to think of self care topics that don’t require a lot of time or money.
Most of the time, when we think of self care, our minds immediately go to a mani/pedi, or a massage, or a weekend away.
I’m telling you, mama, you don’t need to spend a lot of money to take care of yourself.
So, if you want to spend a little more time on yourself and you’re ready for some new ideas and a support system, click below to get a copy of my latest eBook.
